Manhattan, Kansas -- The Wyoming basketball team (0-1 overall) had a tough day as they struggled with the 19th ranked Kansas State Wildcats (1-0 overall) in an 85-42 loss, on Friday night, in Manhattan.

The Cowgirls struggled right out of the gate as Kansas State took a 12-0 lead, before two Hanna Zavecz free throws gave them their first score almost four minutes in the game. The Wildcats came back with another big 15-8 scoring run, while it took Wyoming until the 9:27 mark to even reach double-digits. Things really didn't fare much better as they only managed to score three points in the remainder of the half and went in to the locker room down 39-13. Kansas State's Twiggy McIntyre led all scorers with ten points, while Brie Madden led the Wildcats with four rebounds. As a team, they were 16-30 (.533) from the field and 4-8 (.500) from the three-point line. The Cowgirls were led by Kristen Lenhardt, who recorded five first half points, while Hanna Zavecz brought down four boards. Wyoming shot 2-18 (.111) from the field in the half.

In the second half, the Cowgirls came out and made a nice 9-7 run to make the score 46-22. Their momentum was short lived as Kansas State out scored the next 14 of 21 points to really open it up with 60-29 score. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better for the Cowgirls as they managed to score 13 points the remainder of the game compared to 25 by the Wildcats. Kansas State would earn their first victory of the season with an 85-42 win.

Wyoming was led in scoring by freshman Hanna Zavecz with nine points. She also chipped in five rebounds and three blocks in 36 minutes of play. Point guard Erin Hicks finished her night with seven points and a team leading six rebounds. Senior Ashley Elliott managed to come up with six points all in the second half. The Cowgirls were a dismal 10-38 (.263) from the field and 3-12 (.250) from the three point line. They were also out rebounded 38-21 by the Wildcats, and committed 20 turnovers.

Kansas State was led by senior Kendra Wecker, who finished with a team leading 21 points and ten rebounds. She was followed by Laurie Koehn with 16 points and two other players with ten. As a team, they shot 32-68 (.471) from the field and 12-14 (.857) from the charity stripe.

The Cowgirls will now host the Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions, on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., in their home opener.
